This study aims to realize the [Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative] in a criminal policy way and therefore to provide reference materials for the practitioners and academic circle by examining the current comparative research on in China, one of the major countries in Northeast Asia region.

In this regards, the main purpose of this study is to understand how China sees a criminal law in North Korea by comparing and analyzing the recent revision of criminal procedural law in North Korea and China.

By organizing and analyzing North Korea study materials from Northeast Asia country, it can be expected to overcome the limits in terms of access to the North Korean criminal law; ultimately to promote for better understanding of a criminal law in North Korea within the Northeast Asia peace and cooperation frame.

Chapter 2 compares and analyses criminal procedural law systems and their developing process in North Korea and China. This chapter reviews the major contents of legislation history of two countries by historical approach and compares a criminal justice system and the law making procedure of criminal procedural law structural features between North Korea and China.

Chapter 3 compares and analyses investigation procedures in criminal procedural law of North Korea and China. Criminal Procedural laws of both nations have wide-ranging rules regarding the criminal procedure therefore comparison between two countries’ legislative system, investigation procedures in particular.

Chapter 4 proposes the prospective research project to understand a criminal procedural law movement in North Korea with a joint-research between criminal justice institutes and research institutes in Northeast Asian region.
