On June 28th, KICJ convened the second Expert Group Meeting (EGM) in a webinar format, joined by participants from the United States. The Korea-US Expert Group Meeting Webinar: Community Supervision of Sex Offenders (Electronic Supervision) gathered researchers and practitioners from both countries to share their knowledge and insights on electronic supervision of sex offenders. The meeting began with Sun-Ok Shim, director general of the Electronic Supervision Division at the Korean Ministry of Justice, and Dr. Yoori Seong, KICJ Research Fellow, each speaking on electronic supervision in Korea. Prof. Mijin Kim from Illinois State University presented her comparative research on electronic supervision in the US and Korea. Lastly, Steve Bryant and Robert Bell from Liberty Health Corporation and Kelly McConkey from the Federal Probation Agency discussed the logistics of supervision and electronic monitoring of sex offenders in the state of Illinois. The event closed with a Q&A session on the different aspects of electronic supervision in each country.
