The 2nd Asia Pacific Conference for Criminal Justice (APECCJ)

On August 11th, KICJ convened the 2nd Asia Pacific Expert Conference for Criminal Justice (APECCJ) on the topic of "Promoting Human Rights in Response to Technology-Assisted Crimes: Tackling Violence against Women and Children." The event was held as a public webinar, livestreamed on YouTube. Commencing with opening remarks from KICJ President Tae-Hoon Ha, the first talk was given by Dr. Rick Brown, Deputy Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology on "Understanding the Demand for Live-Streamed Child Sexual Abuse." Next, Dr. Bridget Harris, Associate Professor of Criminology at Monash University, discussed "Digital Coercive Control: A Practical and Theoretical Framework to Understand Technology-Facilitated Domestic Violence," followed by KICJ Research Fellow Dr. Taegyung Gahng's presentation on "Criminal Implications of Metaverse-Based Harmful Acts." Police Lieutenant Colonel Peabprom Mekhiyanont from the Royal Thai Police delivered the final talk on "Generation Alpha and Self-Generated Child Sexual Abuse Material." The discussion session was presided by Dr. Jin You, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Center at KICJ. Dr. Yoon-jeong Yeon, legislative researcher at the National Assembly Research Service, KICJ Research Fellow Dr. Dahye Chang, and Jin Hee Lee, prosecutor at the Minstry of Justice, participated in the discussions with the speakers.
