2021 Stockholm Criminology Symposium held online on June 15-16

The 2021 Stockholm Criminology Symposium was held on June 15-16th as a virtual event, partly broadcasted from Stockholm. The main themes for this year were ‘Gun violence: sound knowledge and countermeasures’ and ‘Contemporary criminology’. As the sole national research institute on crime and criminal justice, the Korean Institute of Criminology has actively participated in the Stockholm Criminology Symposium to discuss strategies, methods and measures to reduce crime and improve levels of safety in society. This year, three delegates from the KIC participated in the Symposium and held an independent panel session entitled “Fostering Successful Crime Prevention in South Korea”. The KIC session was chaired by Dr. Jeongsook Yoon (Senior Research Fellow), who also delivered a presentation on “Strengthening Sex Offender Treatment Programs in South Korea”. In addition to that, “Life Status of Prisoners on Death Row with Fixed Penalty and a Design for Alternative Punishment” was presented by Dr. Daekeun Kim (Research Fellow), followed by the presentation of Dr. Youngoh Jo (Research Fellow) on “Gender Differences in Correlates of Delinquency among Juvenile Offenders in South Korea”.
