The 30th Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in hybrid format

The 30th regular session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice was conducted in a hybrid format from 17 to 21 May 2021. At , KIC president In-Sup Han pointed out how crimes have evolved in various ways during the COVID19 crisis and their impacts on our societies. In particular, he emphasized the severity of cybersex crimes and introduced strengthened statutory measures Korea took in response to the cybersex crimes, including intensified punishment for sexually exploitative materials targeting children, penalizing online sexual grooming of children, and employing the use of undercover investigators for effective crime investigation. He highlighted the importance of international criminal justice cooperation to arrest perpetrators, to confiscate proceeds of crime, and eventually to eradicate transnational crimes. Tae-Ill Lee, chief prosecutor, participated on behalf of government delegates and introduced legislative and institutional efforts Korea has made to observe UN standards and norms in the field of anti-corruption, victim’s protection, human rights protection, and prison overcrowding alleviation
