Delegation from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan, led by Toychiev Davronkulovich, First Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Prime Minister, visited KICJ from November 7 to November 9, 2023. The purpose of the visit was to consult with KICJ on establishing a criminal justice research institute in Uzbekistan and discuss future collaboration.

On their first day, the Uzbekistan delegation met with KICJ President Dr. Tae-hoon Ha, followed by an overview of the Institute and a tour of its facilities given by the International Cooperation Center at KICJ. The next day had Dr. Fozilov Yusupovich, head of the Center for Scientific and Practical Research of Public Security Issues, speaking on the scientific methodology of diagnosing crime factors in Uzbekistan. Researchers from KICJ in attendance were as follows: Vice President Dr. Jun-Hwi Park; Dr. Hyung-Min Park, Director of the Department of Legal Policy Research; Dr. Jee Young Yun, Director of the Criminal Policy Research Division; Dr. Jungsook Yoon, Director of the Crime Analysis & Survey Research Division; and Dr. Daniel Hark-Mo Park, Senior Research Fellow. A Q&A session followed on the establishment and research projects of KICJ. Around 30 other KICJ researchers also attended via Zoom.

The last day’s agenda began with Dr. Yeong-jung Kim, head of the Planning & Evaluation Team, and Senior Research Fellow Dr. Daniel Hark-Mo Park explaining the management practicalities of the Institute. Dr. Seong-Hoon Park, Director of the Digital Center for Criminal Justice and Law, and Jinhong Kim of the Crime Statistics Research Center introduced and demonstrated the Crime and Criminal Justice Statistics (CCJS) platform. Lastly, Dr. Jisun Choi, Director of the Division of International Affairs, and Dr. Kyoungmi Lee, Director of the Domestic Cooperation & PR Team, discussed specific plans for future collaboration with the delegation.
