2023 KICJ-Korean Association of Victimology Fall Conference

On October 27, KICJ, the Korean Association of Victimology, and the National Police Agency organized the 2023 Joint Fall Conference in Vabien Education Center, Seoul.

Beginning with opening remarks from Hye-Jeong Kim, President of the Korean Association of Victimology, congratulatory remarks were delivered by Commissioner General Hee Keun Yoon of the Korean National Police Agency and KICJ President Tae-hoon Ha.


“I look forward to a productive discussion on the usage and application of victimology theory in complex modern-day contexts,” said President Ha of KICJ.


Inspector In-seop Song from Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police and Assistant Inspector Seul-ki Kim from Seoul Gwanak Police Station spoke on example cases of victim support from the police, followed by two sessions each consisting of a presentation and discussions.

 

In Session 1, Prof. Taeheon Kim from Joongbu University spoke on ‘Overview of restorative policing and policy directions.’ Prof. Donghee Lee from the Korean National Police University presided over the session. Prof. Hyungjin Lim from Baekseok University, KICJ Senior Research Fellow Hyun-Wook Chun, and Director Byungho Cho of the Incheon Crime Victim Support Center participated in the discussions.

 

In Session 2, Superintendent Boyoung Shim from the Division of Victim Protection of the National Police Agency spoke on ‘Assessing private sector security provision for high-risk crime victims,’ with KICJ Senior Research Fellow Sunghoon Ahn presiding over the session. Prof. Wonkyu Park from Kunsan National University, Prof. Jeyong Jung from the University of Ulsan, and Prof. Myungyu Hwang from Joongbu University participated in the discussions.
