The Cybercrime Research Unit of the Korean Institute of Criminology was proud to welcome Professor David Wall from Durham University in the United Kingdom. Dr. Wall is a world renowned expert on cybercrime. His work has spanned decades, and includes ten books and more than fifty articles furthering the fields of criminology and cybercrime research. Dr. Wall presented his current research into the characteristics of cybercrime and the structure of organized cybercrime activities to an audience of notable researchers and practitioners from the KIC and other centers of cybercrime research and education. The discourse covered specific aspects of organized cybercrime organizations and criminals that differ from that of conventional notions of organized cybercrime, as well as the challenges that this relatively unknown area of study presents to researchers, law enforcement agencies and criminal justice systems alike. Dr. Wall then led a discussion on elements of cybercrime that are of particular import in South Korea such as the crime related to the theft and trade of virtual items within Virtual Worlds online. The Korean Institute of Criminology would like to thank Dr. Wall for sharing his knowledge and expertise with the Korean cybercrime research community and looks forward to the increased international cooperation, synergy, and benefit that will come from his efforts.
