The KIC invited Dr. William Marshall, the world-renown scholar in the sex offender treatment field holds the workshop with the Korean sex offender therapists from July 23 to July 27 at the Korean Institute of Criminology. Dr. Liam Marshall, who is also a well-known psychologist in the sex offender treatment field accompanied him. Dr. William Marshall has devoted his life to the research and treatment of sex offenders for 43 years and has been actively working with sex offender therapists from more than 26 countries. He also provides consultation to various government agencies across the world. The workshop is titled "Training for the Trainers," which is aimed at training qualified sex offender therapists in Korea who will be subsequently expected to serve as trainers for other therapists after being trained. Dr. William Marshall and Dr. Liam Marshall developed the sex offender treatment program manual for the KIC, and the workshop is conducted based on the manual that they developed. The manual title is "Strength-based Approach for Sex Offenders" focussing on motivational and positive approach to treat sex offenders. It describes not only the theoretical and empirical bases of the approach but also the practical procedures to deliver therapy to the clients with such an approach. Dr. Jeongsook Yoon at the KIC organizes all the relevant collaboration work with the Marshall team including developing the manual and holding the workshop.
